Do you like leftovers? I know many people do, but I am not one to eat leftovers. Many times I have cooked too much for a meal. I then find myself digging through the plastic containers in the cabinet to find the right ones to house the leftovers for placing them in the refrigerator. And you know how it is, once you find the size container you need, you then spend what seems like hours trying to locate the right top for the container. Shuuuuuuweeee! Tiresome and a waste of time. Why? Because after spending all this time saving the leftovers, they sit in the refrigerator and never get eaten. They begin to grow mold, become stinky, and even take on a whole new identity! You know what I mean don’t you? They look so different from when you placed them in the refrigerator that you can’t even identify what they used to be.
Hmmmmm, talk of leftovers brings a question to my mind: “Does God like leftovers?” Before we look at scripture to find the answer to this question let’s ponder it for a few minutes. Leftovers? Do we give God our leftovers--our leftover time, our leftover service, our leftover money? Do we go about our day doing what we want to do, and if we have some time left at the end of the day read our Bible? Do we go about our lives serving ourselves first? Is everything for I, me, my, mine with no consideration for what we can do for God and His Kingdom? And what about the BIGGEE—our money? Do we pay the bills, buy new clothes, go out to eat, go to a movie…the list is never ending…and then give God a few dollars if anything at all.
So, now that we’ve pondered the question –“Does God like leftovers?”— let’s look at God’s Word to find the answer.
So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matt 6:31-33 (NIV)
4 You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him. Deut 13:3-4 (NKJV)
9 Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; (Prov 3:9 NKJV)
24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. Matt 6:24 (NIV)
